Maker's Studio + Production Lab

Description

Step behind the curtain and discover the magic that makes theater come to life. In this hands-on introduction to technical theater, students will explore all the essential departments that support a professional production at Dallas Theater Center.

Participants will rotate through:

• Stage Management – calling cues, tracking scenes, and keeping a show running
• Lighting Design – creating mood and visual storytelling
• Scenic Design – drafting, building, and understanding the world of the play
• Costume Design – character expression through wardrobe 
• Props Construction – building and sourcing props that support the story 
• Production Process – how all departments collaborate to bring a show from page to stage 

This class is perfect for students who are curious about theater beyond acting and want to get a real look at the artistry and teamwork that make a production happen. No previous experience required.

Ages: 10–18
Schedule: Jan 20–Apr 28: Tuesdays, 4:30–5:30 PM (No class March 17)
Tuition: $300 [payment plans available]
$100 Deposit due at time of registration. Full payment due by Jan 13. 

PRODUCTION LAB ADD-ON: Students have the option to step into real-world production work on The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. This option is ideal for students who want immersive, hands-on theater experience and the chance to support a full musical production from rehearsal through performance.

Production Lab Add-On: Beginning May 2: Saturdays with the SpongeBob cast, 10 AM–1 PM
Tech Week: June 1–5, 9 AM–4 PM
Performances: June 6 (Matinee & Evening)
